Parent-Teen Workshops

IN-DEALERSHIP PARENT-TEEN SAFE DRIVING WORKSHOPS

 

This 90 minute parent-teen interactive workshop is adapted from the teenSMART program introducing the six leading causes of teen driver crashes and development of crash avoidance skills proven to dramatically reduce crash frequency and severity.

This program will address the causes of teen crashes that account for over 90% of all crashes including:

  • Visual Search

  • Hazard detection

  • Speed adjustment

  • Space management

  • Risk perception

  • Lifestyle issues

 

Other topics include:

  • The importance of parents staying involved with their teen driver

  • Being a Good Role Model

  • Distracted, impaired and drowsy driving

  • Seat belts -  for all occupants

  • Controlling the Keys …and more

  • What you need to know in the event of a crash 

 

Each workshop also includes a basic vehicle maintenance demonstration.  Participants will learn basic maintenance tips that include how to:

  • Check fluids including engine oil, power steering, brake and transmission as well as windshield washer solvent and antifreeze/coolant.

  • Check the hoses and belts to make sure they are not cracked, brittle, frayed, or showing signs of excessive wear.

  • Check the battery and replace if necessary. Make sure the connection is clean, tight and corrosion-free.

  • Check the brake system annually and have the brake linings, rotors and drums inspected at each oil change.

  • Check the tires, including tire pressure and tread bulges and bald spots. Know about important indicators such as uneven wear indicates a need for wheel alignment.

  • Check the wipers and lighting so that you can see and be seen. Check that all interior and exterior lighting is working properly and replace worn wiper blades so you can see clearly when driving in inclement weather

  • Change a tire
